A Cenozoic is divided into 2 periods, a Palaeogene and Neogene, and it is successively divided into epochs. A Palaeogene consists of the Paleocene, Eocene, and Oligocene epochs, and a Neogene consists of the Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene epochs, the survive of which is on-going. Antecedently a Cenozoic was divided into periods (or even sub-eras) known as a Tertiary (Paleocene to Pliocene) and Quaternary (Pleistocene and Holocene). Nonetheless, it is there is no elongated recognized. Cenozoic gets its title from either a Greek words ceno (fresh) & zoological garden (brute).

A Cenozoic is the age of mammals. When you took the Cenozoic, mammalian diverged from either two or three little, elementary, generalized forms into a diverse collection of terrestrial, marine, & flying animate being. A Cenozoic is even as much a age of savannas, or a age of co-dependent Angiosperms (flowering plants) and insects. Birds also evolved substantially in the Cenozoic.

Geologically, the Cenozoic is the era when continents moved into their todays positions. Australia-New Guinea split from Gondwana to drift north &, in time, abut South-east Asia; Antarctica moved into its current position all over a South Pole; the Atlantic Ocean widened and, late in the era, South America became attached to North America.
